    JETenterprises UK Limited

I formed JETenterprises UK Limited in 2003, having been seriously debilitated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as a means to get an income after three years of being unable to work.

I have designed and installed 7 major networks. I have designed 3 completely Virtual Networks for clients that needed to downsize and move premises to make their IT portable. I have helped numerous SMB/SMEs to reduce their cost and improve their Cyber Security. I helped Adult Learning Centres to become Hybrid Teaching Centres enabling remote Class Room learning using 360 Degree Video Conferencing over the last 2 difficult years. I have created JETconnect, our Day 1 Comms and Internet in a box solution designed specifically for Construction Industry site offices. I have advised Startups and SMBs how to reduce their Cyber Security risk and lower the cost of IT. I helped Adult Learning reduce its cost of IT infrastructure and workstations by moving them into Chromebooks and Google for Education and provided a simple way for them to control Loan Workstation to students by setting up and asset tagging and monitoring system.

Personal favourite would be a network I designed for a small fit out company was purchased by a large corporation who suffered a major national cyber attack on their own network whilst we were in the process of dismantling and amalgamating into one network.  There network was destroyed, whilst the relatively small network was protected and not breached

  • JETmicro Engineering

    Executive Design Engineer
    21 - 100 Employees 1989 - 1992

My JETmicrodays were fun but varied.  I worked on many projects designing the Firmware and Hardware of a married of devices.  I designed ied the electronics, created the PCB, and wrote the Machine Code (low-level programming, my specialism).

    Projects such as;

    • Disneys prototype talking book
    • Anti Bomb/interference system for use in Irland to prevent vehicles from being tampered with.
    • Prototype TCR slotless racing cars. A police car with flashing lights and sirens and an accompanying E-type Jaguar with machine gun sounds and flashing headlights.
    • Single Ram Hydraulic lift control system.
    • Prototype Paint Mixer, Shaker for ICI paint in Wick (first of its kind).
    • Prototype and Pre Production of ICI Rotating Turret paint mixer to create any colour from a sample.
    • JETmicro Controller.  Avery small Micro Controler for use in control systems and Alarms and other prototyping or hobbies use.
    • Guardian Air pressure alarm commissioned by the Guardian News Paper.

A few of the odder projects  I was involved in a few oddities back in the day when Micro Computors and Surface mount technology was in its infency.

  • GPO - British Telecom

    Asistant Executive Engineer
    100+ Employees 1980 - 1989

BT training was at that time second to none. I started a 5-year apprenticeship designed to create next-generation Engineers and Technicians.

I learned all aspects of BT Equipment, Processes and Techniques whilst completing an HND.  After finishing the apprenticeship, our job was to design test processes, repair lines, build testers where there was nothing suitable and train staff in the process or usage of our creations.

My most interesting project was DART, London's first ever automated test system. When you rang to report a fault on your line or someone else whose line appeared dead, traditionally, an engineer would go to the exchange floor, find the faulty line and run a barrage of tests from a test desk. One fault at a time. DART allowed automated desks at fast speeds from the operators' desks (in a nice office.)  It could test the line you were calling on or any 10,000 lines in that exchange. A great project working in a team of 3 engineers.  My contribution was the control software that ran the whole system and reported the results on a screen for the operator to see in a clear and de-skilled way that was easy to understand.

My greatest achievement was to achieve AEE (Professional Engineer Status) at the age of 21.  This meant becoming salaried instead of waged and having responsibility for the teams under my leadership.
