Having graduated from University in 2006, I went on to work for Vail Williams Building Consultancy team as a Graduate Building Surveyor. This role gave me many skills, such as report writing; producing schedules of condition on behalf of the tenant; schedules of dilapidation on behalf of the landlord; building surveys and defect reports, as well as project management roles for several construction and refurbishment projects across Sussex and Hampshire.
Of particular interest to me was the Building Pathology element of the role. In preparation for a restoration project of a Grade II listed building in Farnham, I carried out extensive research into sensitively repairing and restoring listed buildings, and project managed the repair to the external and internal walls.
As part of a national networking event, I also attended a CPD presentation by Mike Parrett - Building Pathologist and Damp Expert, which further sparked my interest in Building Pathology, and encouraged me to broaden my knowledge further by carrying out my own research.
Following the recession in 2009 and the birth of my son a few years later, I took some time out of the property industry and was able to re-evaluate what I wanted from my career. Although there were many elements of Building Surveying that I really enjoyed, I realised that I wanted a more flexible career which allowed me to spend more time with my young family, help others and also to work on my own terms.
I still very much have a passion for property, which is why I chose to channel my interest into Property Sourcing.
Through my local knowledge and motivation to educate myself, I keep up to date with recent developments and requirements. By attending many local Property Networking events and regularly interacting with estate agents, I provide a trusted service to property investors who lack time, helping them to find the perfect properties to add to their portfolios.
