Photography for the travel industry
Despite the ongoing uncertainty with Brexit and the instability of the UK Pound against other currencies, it seems the Brits still love their holidays. According to ABTA summer 2019 overseas package and accommodation bookings were up 12 per cent compared to last year. The weaker pound however means holidaymakers are more cost-conscious, with 51 per cent saying they would spend the same as last year and only 25 per cent – down six points – saying they would spend more. Also they suggested that consumer demand is shifting towards more regular shorter breaks.
ABTA also hails the return of the trusted travel expert. The good news for agents and operators is that 45 per cent of ABTA’s 2,000 interviewees said they were more confident booking with a travel professional.
From my experience as a photographer who has worked for the travel industry, this definitely seems to be the case. I've covered more travel related commissions in the last couple of years, than over the previous decade combined as a professional photographer.
Lots of varied events - from travel industry roadshows, tour operator previews, travel agent networking events, holiday prize give-aways to store promotions. All recognising that photography, travel and tourism are intrinsically linked and understanding that bespoke professional imagery, unique to the event, will always help them stand out from the competition and to get their brand message across.
So if you are planning a travel industry related event, conference or roadshow in, or around Merseyside, please get in touch for a competitive photography quote.
Some recent clients include; Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, Thomas Cook, Holidays Extra, PR Media Co, TIPTO, CLC World Holidays, Stena Line and the Travelex Group.

Interests and Hobbies
Like all photographers I have a number of completed and ongoing personal projects. My main interest at the moment is social issues and how they manifest themselves via protests. I've been covering UK Uncut actions and documenting direct action, student demonstrations and protests for a number of years. I've got a large collection of protest photography on my Tumblr blog. Quite a few images have been licenced and used in national and international press and I have also exhibited a selection as part of Look Photography Festival . Finally I am working with a number of academics doing research into evolving street protests and will be presenting my work and experiences in a module called Photography and Protest in the near future.
Another on-going area of my work is coverage of world music events and festivals and am represented by several specialist image libraries. Obviously if you have an interesting event, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Again loads of music photography on my Tumblr.
2014 has started well. I'm a couple of months into a really interesting documentary project - and hopefully will be able to show some highlights fairly soon in the autmun.
Finally, away from all the events that I work at, I try to find some time to venture out into the countryside and look for the perfect trees to photograph. Indeed it's been a little project over the last few years, capturing trees against a minimal landscape.
