A story that we see quite often when we speak with customers is they have spent a good chunk of money on having a new website for their business, but then it doesn’t perform for them. Either it gets no traffic, generates no leads, has dropped significantly in search rankings or a combination of these.
The key to a good website that performs for you is that rather than just reskinning an older design you need to have a clear idea of what you want your website to do for you. Here are some examples:
In each case a website should have a purpose which can provide a return on investment by either cutting expenditure or generating additional income. This purpose should be measurable to enable you to guarantee the website is fit for purpose. For example “I want 50 genuine enquiries through my contact form each month”, or “My online store should generate £40,000 of revenue each month”.
Once you have a purpose and a way to measure it, you can focus on the correct things to improve on your website. Options such as:
Sometimes small focussed changes yield the best results because they can cost less to implement over a full scale redesign, and they look at resolving the most important things to you to directly help your business.
Reviewing and improving websites is something that I really enjoy to do. If you would like me to take a look at your website and have an informal chat, please feel free to drop me an email on [email protected], or using the button above. I’d be more than happy to speak with you.
