The business was basically sound with an excellent reputation for quality products. It suffered from other issues that collectively contributed to its failure. Was a Sales Director who couldn’t manage one of those? Given his design skills and service delivery he certainly had other qualities contributing to the delivery of revenue. However, it does make you think.
Is my team properly balanced? Have I got the right mix of skills? Do I have the right skills in the right the places? If I had the right skills in the right places would my business processes be more efficient?
Ultimately a team lacking skill sets will be costing the business revenue profit and cash. Fundamental to any business review is understanding the answer to these questions. Undertaking transformational change will require an assessment and implementation of business improvement techniques and training needs.
