Communication is key in business
Improving both internal and external communications in a company can reap real benefits.
Let’s consider when something goes wrong and needs resolving:
The aim is to sort out what went wrong, investigate why it happened and to put things right. Often when things have been resolved root cause corrective action is put in place to stop the failure happening again. A great job and everyone is happy.
The person who experienced the problem may not be happy! They were not informed what was happening whilst the fixing was happening. Promises to have it sorted by a certain time didn’t happen and they had to chase up again and again before things were sorted.
Those involved in resolving the issue forgot to communicate. They were blinkered by the issue in hand, communication was forgotten.
Communication is essential to efficiently resolve issues without unnecessary duplication of effort and just as important to keep the person with the issue fully up-to-date as to what is happening.
It is good practice to set up reminders so that you remember to feed back progress to those who had the issue
