It sounds like a bit of a sappy line from a motivational speaker's seminar, however, in reality the more leadership we demonstrate, the greater "buy-in" we will achieve from our staff, and the knock-on effect of greater buy-in is quite simply - greater effectiveness in management.
Some of the best managers that I have ever worked with or worked for, seem to have this concept down pat. They didn't "lead from behind" by shouting directives for their team to follow. Rather, they rolled up their sleeves and led by example and to be honest it made me want to do the same.
I'm sure we can all point to times when things were so hectic, all that we could do was direct traffic and keep the trains running on time. Whereas taking care of the day-to-day is crucial, leading employees (instead of pointing them) in a specific direction will ultimately make our jobs as managers much easier.
It is for this reason that I approached Chamber Management trainer, Alan Slater, PhD last year to present a course that helps managers, whether new, line, or executive to ascend to a higher level of management by establishing the fundamentals of good "leadership" and what that looks like in the workplace.
Alan has put together an excellent course which addresses all of these issues and is vital for anyone looking to manage by way of leadership. The key is "buy-in" from your employees and this course from the Chamber of Commerce will help your management team accomplish exactly that.
